I'm rebuilding a '98 Metro 1L engine. I have the cam out being reground at Delta cams. I want to install the head, while waiting on the cam. Is this engine an interference engine? Can valve timing and piston timing be out without damaging the engine. I have heard conflicting views. I know I'll have to rotate the cam when I get it back, but want to bolt the head back on the block before then.

If you believe what's in Wikipedia; wikipedia.org/Suzuki_G_engine It only has interference info. up to G13BB, the reference is a broken link. :shake

Got 70 MPG?

The only way a G10 will an interferance motor is if you have a cam with more lift, and/or you've shaved the head and block a lot. When I say a lot I mean .050" and up. You may get by with .050" but I'm not entirely sure...

I have run a .375" lift cam, with .100" removed from the head, and it still wasn't an interference motor. I do have a head cut in half lengthwise for measuring stuff like this. I could go back and have a look, but my guess is (from memory) that you can't make it happen.

No need. I'll never remove that much from block when it is built. I was just making sure that I was still in the green!
